Ocean State Veterinary Specialists in East Greenwich, RI is in need of a criticalist. The hospital is a 26,000 sq. ft. facility with a recently added Specialty Center. OSVS provides referral and emergency services to RI, eastern CT, and southern MA. The hospital is privately owned, and there is no general practice associated with the hospital. Equipment includes digital radiography, ultrasound, CT, MRI, laparoscopy, fluoroscopy, mechanical ventilation, telemetry, and state-of-the-art monitoring equipment. The staff includes specialists in internal medicine (5), surgery (3), cardiology, radiology, emergency/critical care (3), neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, clinical pathology, and avian/exotics, as well as a group of very experienced emergency clinicians. The support staff is highly trained and enthusiastic about continuing education. There is a well-respected rotating internship, emergency/critical care residency, emergency/surgery internship, and surgery residency. The emergency caseload is high, and the cases challenging.
The criticalists’ main role is supervising and training interns and residents, and providing support to the emergency doctors. The compensation is not dependent on production, but reflects the value of the experience and expertise provided to the emergency team. The schedule is fixed and includes one weekend shift a week.
