Cobhamis seeking a Manager of Product Engineering to Lead and champion cross functional teams for effective launch of new products into New Product Introduction initiatives in the Cobham San Diego site. Supports R&D activities by providing operational leadership to the development process. Work in a cross-functional team environment, lead and manage projects to improve products and processes for introduction to mass manufacturing. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma and various problem solving techniques to train resources, manage projects/teams, solve problems, mitigate risk, optimize systems and improve business processes. Experienced and demonstrate competency in data analysis, presentation, influence, leadership, decision making, tolerance of ambiguity, planning and organizing, initiative, and interpersonal skills.
Effectively lead change and drive engineering projects to achieve desired results. Work with R&D to ensure process specifications, procedures, controls related to new products are well documented and communicated before launch. Provide input to R&D regarding processing options and capabilities during the development of new products. Provide design for manufacturing leadership to the new product development process. Design development roadmaps of activities and manufacturing process needs to Operations Management, Process and Manufacturing Engineering community. Link mass production capability to the products coming from upstream. Drive implementation of new manufacturing processes to align with NPI schedules. Facilitate/coordinate training as needed to build competence for the Design and MFG Engineering staffs in areas of DFx, DFSS, “right sourcing”/make-buy, etc.Increase focus on customer quality by instituting DFSS (Design for Six Sigma) techniques into the development process using QFD, PFMEA, control plans, etc.Serve as Operations technical point of contact and provide support for all products in the upstream development phase. Develop and manage NPI project plans for development programs (includes capacity calculations, process implementation schedules, capital/tooling development/procurement, documentation readiness, etc.) Provide DFx inputs on all new designs. Effectively hand off new products to the sustaining Manufacturing Engineering team. Coordinate operator and technician training on new product transitions. Work with Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) representatives as needed to ensure that equipment, materials and processes comply with applicable codes and regulations. Work with Operations and Quality teams to assist in day-to-day problem solving as required. Implement of Poke Yoke solutions on new designs and tooling. Make data driven decisions to identify greatest opportunities (cost, quality, cycle time) for process improvements. Assemble and lead cross functional teams to address these opportunities. Adhere to the Six Sigma DMAIC process methodology to improve common cause manufacturing issues. Influence peers to adopt this statistical approach. Support Manufacturing by troubleshooting the manufacturing process/equipment and take appropriate corrective action steps on an as needed basis. Develop, maintain and update manufacturing procedures with input from appropriate functions. Assist in the training of operators and technicians. Lead projects to identify, evaluate, and implement advanced manufacturing technologies and operational improvements. Influence product and process development efforts to forge win-win solutions while exploiting data driven decisions. Actively interact with R&D, manufacturing and other disciplines as project needs dictate. Perform independently across departmental lines and interact with senior management as required. Drive production test and tune time reduction on new designs Define external supply chain technology needs for development programs (future state). Provide Manufacturing and supply chain technical leadership to other Engineering functions Provide technical leadership to supply chain team for outsourced assemblies Coordinate sourcing decisions early in developments phase (make/buy) Define external supply chain technology needs for development programs (future state) Participate in safety training and comply with safety policies and practices Collaborate in team meetings and LEAN activities, including Self Evaluation Team support as appropriate Perform other related duties as assigned Requirements:
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering Minimum of 8 years of experience in New Product Introduction manufacturing Minimum of 2+ years leadership (supervisory/management) experience US Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance
Knowledge of Six-Sigma & Lean Manufacturing Master’s degree in Engineering or Business Experience in an electronic manufacturing environment
