NPI Engineer I
Cobham is seeking a NPI Product Engineer I to be an important contributor to the success of new products at Cobham Defense Electronics. The successful candidate will collaborate within cross functional program organizations to ensure the development of new products meet targets for on-time delivery, cost and quality.This position is located in San Diego, CA.
Under direct supervision and following standard practices and procedures, will:
Serve as the liaison between Operations and Engineering on new development programs.
Participate in cross functional teams to support Operations to meet defined schedule plans during development and transition to production phases.
Support the development of new products and assists in design for manufacturing (DfM) activities during early concept stages of the development process.
Support the development of product manufacturing documentation to ensure a smooth transition from prototype to production rates. Develop manufacturing travelers and routers defining the optimal manufacturing sequence. Analyze travelers, routers, BOM, and design drawings for manufacturability, design standard adherence, contractual design requirements, automation and labor hour reductions.
Support the creation of Manufacturing Plans and Manufacturing Cost Models for labor and materials. Expand and implement concepts, including Lean Manufacturing, DFMEA, PFMEA etc., to reduce manufacturing cost and increase process throughput. Evaluate new materials, supplies or suppliers based on project scope.
Create Key Performance Characteristics (KPC), Key Performance Indicators (KPI), and Statistical Process Controls (SPC) for manufacturing and program management.
Define and assist in the management of manufacturing risks and opportunities in the program.
Prepare reports, publishes and makes presentations to communicate findings.
Assist in operator training for new manufacturing parts, materials or processes.
Assist in early prototype testing and troubleshooting to find root cause of failures and drive engineering or process change corrective actions.
Be responsible for transitioning products from design into manufacturing and full rate production.
Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Material Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
Three (3) years of related experience with micro-electronics manufacturing, manufacturing engineering or New Product Introduction.
Project Management Skills, Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and Power Point.
Experience leading Lean/Six Sigma/Continuous Improvement Manufacturing projects and implementation.
Intermediate analytical skills, including statistical analysis; ability to collect, analyze and summarize information; ability to think abstractly and separate complex ideas into simple elements

Experience with SAP
Experience with root cause problem solving activities for defective products, or deficient processes.
