Farm Managers manage crop activities, schedules for yield, sustainability and overall product quality. Positions interface with owners, managers, agronomists and work crews to proactively exchange information, establish schedules and coordinate activities. Other work performed includes maintaining all issued equipment, operating field equipment as required and representing Coleman Agriculture throughout the community and with customer base.
Farm Manager I manages smaller farms (500 acres or less) and staff of less than 30 during crop seasons
Farm Manager II manages larger farms (500+ acres; typically 1,000 – 3,000 acre farms) and manages other Assistant Farm Managers and staff of 30 or more during crop seasons.
Key responsibilities include:
Managing crop activities
Overseeing chemical and fertilizer applications
Overseeing irrigation activities,
Managing labor pool
Organizing and managing records
Ensuring high level crop quality
Leading safety awareness and providing support
Significant agriculture knowledge, skills and experience
5 years or more management experience overseeing and leading all aspects of commercial farm activities, staff and equipment. Farm Manager II’s need prior work experience managing 500+ acre farms or 3 years Farm Manager I experience at Coleman Agriculture.
Can lead and direct teams, while also working hands on at times to fully understand all aspects of the business
Business acumen, including ability to plan ahead for crops and manage all areas of farming crops proactively
Management skills and experience
Innovation, teamwork, family/people orientation and progressive farming techniques highly needed and valued.
Basic financial skills, including forecasting, planning and budgeting
